About University Computing Services
Florida State University's University Computing Services works in conjunction with colleges and departments at FSU to provide services to help meet the University's computing and networking goals.
Established in 1958 as the Florida State University Computing Center (FSUCC), changes in computing technology and decentralization of computing at FSU led FSUCC to an increasing emphasis on network and user support services. The concept of a `center' that housed computers or at which computing was performed became increasingly outdated. To reflect the changing roles of the organization, FSUCC was renamed Academic Computing and Network Services(ACNS) on July 1, 1992.
During late spring and summer of 1999, Florida State's technology agencies were reorganized under a new vice president and the Office of Technology Integration was formed. OTI consists of UCS, AIS, US, and IRM. (Here's the acronym expansion). More about the structure of OTI is here.
In July 2005, ACNS became University Computing Services(UCS) as the Network Services staff and resources were reallocated to Office of Telecommunications.
UCS' main offices are located in the Sliger Building at Innovation Park.
