This guide contains
many examples of commands and interactive sessions. The following typographic
conventions are used:
- courier
- Text that represents
potential computer input or output, including commands, file names,
and examples of interactive sessions. For example, ls is
an example of a Unix command.
- courier italic
- Computer input
or output for which a substitution is to be made. For example, command
can be replaced with any Unix command.
- courier bold
- User input in
examples of interactive sessions.
- [bracketed]
- Optional command
arguments indicated by surrounding brackets.
- Prompts
- %
C shell prompt.
- $
Bourne or Korn shell prompt.
